뉴 오더- 60 miles an hour (Get ready, 2001)

밴드의 경우 솔로보다도 음악적으로 확 달라진 변신을 하기란 쉬운 일이 아니다. 뭐 더 상업적으로 변한다든가 하는 변신은 쉬운 일에 속하겠지만, '장르자체'가 달라지는 진짜배기 음악변신은 밴드의 정체성을 새로 박아넣는 작업이라 어렵다.

그런 예중 가장 대표적이라 할 수 있는 한 밴드가 영국의 일렉트로니카의 시발점중 하나인 '뉴 오더'다.

이들의 전신격인 (그 커트 코베인격인 이언 커티스가 있던) 조이 디비젼의 우울한 맨체스터 펑크록을 듣다가, 뉴 오더의 실험적이면서도 재기발랄한 신스팝을 듣고 있자면, 이게 과연 같은 멤버들이 만든 그룹인가 싶을 정도 (너바나에서 나온 새로운 사운드의 푸 파이터스의 밝아진 색감보다 훨씬 더한 차이다).

이들은 영국 펑크록의 계보에서도 굵직한 자취를 남겼지만, 후신격인 이 뉴 오더 역시 그 80년대의 대표장르인 신스팝의 대부가 된다 (물론 완전한 Pioneer는 아니다, 같은 영국의 디페쉬 모드라든가 울트라박스, 휴먼 리그가 주인공들).
