고 랜디로즈 시절의 '오지 폭풍(Blizzard of Ozzy, 1981)'과 '미친 인간 다이어리(Diary of a madman,1982). 그리고 랜디 사망 직후 후임으로 들어온 제이크 E. 리 시절의 '달을 향해 짖어라 (Bark at the moon, 1983)'다. 개인적으로는 랜디와 제이크 기타 모두 좋아하는 데, 멜로디컬하면서도 고조감을 끌어올리는 랜디와 특유의 지기지기 사운드로 박력넘치는 Heavy한 연주를 보여준 제이크 모두 맛들어진 매력이 있다.
둘의 관계는 마치 강정호가 빠지니 박병호가 터진 느낌이랄까- 보통 음악사를 돌아봐도 랜디정도의 아우라를 지닌 기타리스트의 자리를 다음 주자가 자기 이름을 남길 정도로 채워넣기는 힘든 일이다. 그런데 제이크는 그걸 해낸 몇 안되는 케이스. 그리고 그 결정적 한방이 바로 이 앨범이다.
필자에게 오지오스본 밴드 앨범중 한 장을 꼽으라면 군말없이 '달을 향해 짖어라'를 꼽는데, 이는 여러 면 (레코딩 퀄, 보컬의 성숙도, 곡 구성)에서 이 작품에서 OZZY BAND의 역량이 가장 최고조로 폭발하고 있다고 생각하기 때문. 예전에 소개한 것으로 (당연히) 생각했는데 이 앨범 곡들을 전혀 올린 적이 없어서 놀랐다. 앨범 전체가 좋은 곡으로 꽈악~~공기밥 눌러담듯 담긴 명반이지만, 그중에서도 가장 '극적'인 구성이 돋보이는 'Waiting for darkness'를 우선 소개한다.
처음부터 자켓과 어울리는 음울한 효과음으로 시작되는 이 작품은 후반부로 가면서 점점 그 분위기가 고조되다가 막판 제이크의 솔로연주부분에는 "(뭐라고 표현하기 힘든) 씽씽'거리는 기괴한 음이 들어가면서 절정을 이룬다.
싱글컷이 안되서 뮤비를 못보는 게 한인 작품중 하나.
